Families can be such a wonderful, beautiful unit where we share time, memories, traditions together. However it’s not always easy as the neighbors make it seem. So many factors can come in the way of having a “normal” family, whatever that’s supposed to mean. Each family needs are different, diverse and unique. But each family deserves to be happy and thriving. Family Counseling can play an important role in finding that “functionality”; where you know how to resolve conflicts, validate, listen and get along.
Counseling is Utah County is mainly centered on marital therapy. This is fantastic! It gives couples an opportunity to resolve conflicts in a safe environment. With all of the positive of marital therapy it needs to be noted that there is a consequence. Don’t panic! The consequence is a very positive consequence. The couple is able to pass the skills they learn onto their children.
Fortunately, parents don’t have to wait until their issues are fully resolved to pass along those skills. They can participate in family therapy where the issues are resolved in the open. The skills are learned as a family and they are continued as a family. If your child is having difficulties, bring them in along with your spouse and we can begin the healing, together as a family.
ABC Family Counseling prefers to integrate the entire family in the process of therapy. Individual therapy can be offered but there are loads of studies that prove the increased benefits to the entire family joining in therapy. Children and families who are engaged and participate in family counseling have higher satisfaction scores in overall therapy and counseling surveys. If your family is struggling with a problem a few sessions of family counseling can dramatically help.

When Family Counseling isn’t the right option
I will be the first to pull a family together to join in counseling and healing, however there are times that family counseling isn’t the right option. Each situation is different but when sensitive issues need to be discussed, or issues relating to adult content wouldn’t be ideal for the whole family. In this case, I use a combination of Marriage Counseling, Play Therapy with Family Counseling. If you have any questions on if we are a good fit, I would love to chat with you on the phone about your situation and if I can help.
